Event Description

Get to know your MFA’s! Kick off Beast Crawl by joining SFSU and SMC for a special hour of reading, featuring contributors and former editors of San Francisco State’s Fourteen Hills as well as distinguished alumni from Saint Mary’s College of California’s MFA in Creative Writing Program.

Fourteen Hills: The SFSU Review contributes to a vibrant literary tradition on the West Coast, committed to publishing a diversity of experimental and progressive work by emerging and established authors.

Danielle Truppi & Bradley Penner are the current Editors-in-Chief of Fourteen Hills: The SFSU Review. A friend of fiction and a purveyor of poetry, respectively, their powers combined are formidable.

St. Mary's is celebrating 20 years of an inspiring literary community this year! Our reading features work by talented alumni that represent the unique, multidimensional qualities of an SMC MFA!

​Kelsay Myers is a writer and artist who tries to create something beautiful. She’s had essays published in literary journals and is Chair of the SMC MFA Program Advisory Board.

Loria Mendoza

Picture
Loria Mendoza is an MFA graduate of San Francisco State University, where she completed a chapbook, Somethings Last a Long Time, and her first novel, Abduction. Her stories can be found in The Walrus, Transfer Magazine, and Red Light Lit.

Paul Ebenkamp

Picture
Paul Ebenkamp authored two poetry books and co-edited others with Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman and Richard O. Moore. He curates the Woolsey Heights reading series and makes music as Position.

Lisa Alden

Picture
Lisa Alden's artist's book "stars, after" is forthcoming this fall in collaboration with SFSU's School of Art. She's a kombucha-loving Mensan with recent work in New American Writing and The Bastille.

Alex Green

Picture
Alex Green has three books published in different genres, his poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and he’s founder and editor of the online music magazine, Stereo Embers.

Daniel Riddle Rodriguez

Daniel Riddle Rodriguez is the author of Low Village, winner of the 2015 CutBank Chapbook Contest, and his previous publications include Juked, Prairie Schooner, Gulf Stream Magazine, Fourteen Hills, and others. He is thrilled to be here.

Risa Nye

Picture
Risa Nye's essays have appeared in a number of publications. In her memoir, There Was A Fire Here, she recounts what she lost and learned in the 1991 Oakland firestorm.
