Unexpected — a true
story competition

Leg Two | 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM | The Layover Lounge

Event Description

StorySlam Oakland is a competitive-format show with judging and prizes. It’s also a community: Oakland becomes a little smaller and more intimate at every show. Each month there's a new theme. This month's theme is: "Unexpected." Hear up to 7 five-minute personal stories from selected storytellers plus one lucky open-mic person.

Curator: Julie Soller

Picture
Julie Soller is the creator of StorySlam Oakland and producer of 2 other monthly, open-mic storytelling shows including Spontaneous Storytelling at the Layover and Tales In the Tasting Room, at Rosenblum Cellars.

Event Readers

Mosa Maxwell-Smith

Gary Pinsky

Picture
Blessed since birth with vivid delusions of grandeur, Gary Pinsky attempts to use wit and humor to offer his audience a glimpse of life through rainbow colored glasses.

Chris Breen

Picture
Chris is a multiple-time StorySlam Oakland winner.

Luna Malbroux

Picture
Luna Malbroux is a comic, writer, producer, and the creator of EquiTable, a humorous app that explores the wage gap.

Jenn Riek

Picture
Jenn Riek is the host of the comedy podcast “This Damn World.” She delights in all things clever and humorous, and would more than likely die in the wild.

Kathleen Auterio

Picture
Kathleen Auterio is a humorist, Cthulhu-worshipper and childhood-surviver. She has already died once. Spoiler alert: there's no heaven.
